Smart phones have become a part of life, the number of which is constantly increasing. A fact has emerged in Gujarat that the number of mobile phones has increased against the population of the state. Telecom operators added 4.06 lakh new customers in May, taking the state's teledensity to cross 100 per cent for the first time in nearly five years, according to data released by TRAI recently. The total telecom subscriber base in Gujarat has reached 7.2 crore, making the teledensity above 100 percent for the first time since July 2021. The reasons for the increase in subscribers include the addition of new customers due to migrant workers, as well as operators expanding their networks, especially in rural areas, while requests for portability also contributed to the overall increase. Competition among operators is also a big factor for this. Company wise, Reliance Jio has been the largest telecom provider in the state with 3.33 crore customers, followed by Vodafone Idea with 1.98 crore, Bharti Airtel with 1.57 crore and BSNL with 32 lakh customers. A TRAI report revealed that the number of 5G fixed wireless subscribers in Gujarat increased from 6.75 lakh in April to 6.84 lakh in May.
