Government of Canada has changed the immigration policy. According to which the applications of Parents and Grandparents Program have been closed for now. The Department of Immigration has announced that, until further notice, neither new Interest to Sponsor forms will be accepted nor will new applicants be given the opportunity to apply for PR sponsorship. This is a big blow for thousands of families living in Canada. They can no longer submit new applications under PGP to secure permanent residency for their parents-grandparents. However, the government said it is targeting to grant Canadian permanent residence to around 15,000 people in 2026 who have previously applied for PGP. The government has advised potential applicants to consider a parent and grandparent super visa. This option allows parents and grandparents to stay in Canada longer.
